Compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume . Compressors are similar to pumps : both increase the pressure on a fluid and both can transport the fluid through a pipe . As gases are compressible, the compressor also reduces the volume of a gas. Liquids are relatively incompressible; while some can be compressed, the main action of a pump is to pressurize and transport liquids Air compressors fall into two different groups: 1. Positive displacement 2. Dynamic Positive Displacement: Positive displacement compressors work by forcing air into a chamber. The volume of this chamber is then decreased, by the displacement of a mechanical linkage reducing the volume which compresses the air. Once maximum pressure is reached within the chamber, a valve opens, and the air is then discharged into the outlet system. Both rotary and reciprocating compressors fall into this catego...
